John A. Stenger, age 83, of Stevens Point passed away on August 14, 2018 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held for John on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate. Friends and family may gather to share memories on Monday from 9 - 10:45 a.m. at church. Burial will be at a later date. Shuda Funeral Services will be assisting the family.
John was born on April 28, 1935, the son of Robert and Rose (Michels) Stenger in Austin, MN where he also attended local schools. John attended Pacelli High School in Austin, MN and graduated in 1953. After High School, John began his career at Hardware Mutual which later became known as Sentry where he retired in 1997. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed Thursday Lounge Night with friends, racquetball and cribbage with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Stenger, 2 daughters: Jan Omernik and Sue (Joe) Schultz, his sister Sr. Lorraine Stenger, OSF; 2 step-children: Christopher Small and Sara (Todd) Jilbert. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren: John (Beth) Omernik, Ami Omernik, Michael (Tammy) Omernik, Andrew (Cara) Omernik, Skott (Sam) Schultz, Daniel (Nicole) Schultz, Morgan Jilbert, and Sydney Jilbert and 3 great grandchildren: Gavin, Eli, and Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edith, 2 brothers Robert and Joe, and 2 sisters Geraldine and Rosemary.
