Mavis 'Midge' Peterson
Mavis "Midge" Peterson, 86, formerly of 3916 Simonis St., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, under the care of Ministry Home Hospice at Harmony Living Center.
Mavis was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Thief River Falls, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Mathilda (Stokke) Olson. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, she moved to California where she was a telegraph operator during World War II. She returned to Thief River Falls and married Wallace Peterson on Jan. 13, 1946. They moved to the Stevens Point area. He passed away March 24, 1963. Then she married Dwaine "Babe" Peterson on May 15, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He passed away Aug. 17, 1985.
Mavis was a homemaker for many years and also worked at the Stevens Point Public Library along with working in retail. Mavis had an unconditional love for her family and friends, she treasured all the time they spent together. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a past member of the Moose Lodge of Stevens Point, and she did volunteer work at the Senior Center.
Mavis is survived by her children, Bonnie (Gordon) Cisewski, Janesville, Vicki (Johnny) Drapes, Plover, and Terry (Jody) Peterson, Stevens Point; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Mosley, Jason Drapes, Jody Wojcik, Brett, Megan, Hannah and Lauren Peterson; four great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Sue (Dick) Clussman, Stevens Point, and Cheryl Carpenter, Belvidere, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, three brothers, three sisters and one stepson.
Funeral services for Mavis will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Steven Olson will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mavis' name are appreciated for Ministry Home Hospice Care.
