When Death Occurs
- When someone you love has just died, there are a number of responsibilities that require your immediate attention. Your first priority, naturally, will be to comfort those most affected by the death. Then when you are able to focus your attention to making arrangements, the first calls should be to the funeral home and clergy person preferred by the family. Call one of the professionals at Shuda Funeral Service 344-2113 for the Stevens Point location and 344-2023 for Plover: to arrange the transportation of the body
- Call your clergy, or ask one of our directors to do this for you
- Confirm time and date of services with the Funeral Director and Clergy.
Keep in mind traveling family members. Make arrangements to meet with funeral director to personalize services
- Notify family and friends of time and place of funeral and services.
With your assistance, the funeral director will prepare the obituary announcement or paid death notice for publication in the newspapers. This notifies people of the time and place for visitation and the funeral services. We can also send notices to appear in other localities, often former places of residence of the deceased. We can advise you of the most effective and informative notices to send.
- Discuss with the Funeral Director:
- Type of service: church or funeral home, music selection
- Selection of disposition: burial, entombment, cremation
- Religious, Fraternal, or Military organizations participation during
the visitation, funeral or burial.
- Selection of casket, burial vault, urns and other items
- Clothing
- Jewelry or other special memorabilia
- Memorial request for a designated charity
- Obituary and radio announcement
- Talk to clergy about:
- Appropriate prayers
- Scripture
- Music
- Eulogy
- Choose a florist and decide: Shuda Funeral Service staff will assist if the family wishes
- Types and colors of flowers from family members
- Distribution after service
- Contact monument company about monument purchase or engraving: Dean Shuda and staff members of Shuda Funeral Service represent Marshfield Monument and will assist in your needs.
- Ask the Funeral Directors to help you obtain certified copies of death
certificate, please remember as per Wisconsin statute you may not make uncertified copies of a death certificate.
