Obituary

Donna M. Warzynski, age 74, of Stevens Point, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Dimensions Living—Stevens Point while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Donna was born September 2, 1946, at Columbus Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Donald and Blanche (Eulo) Fisher.  She graduated from All Souls Hospital School of Nursing in Morristown, New Jersey, in 1967.  She earned her bachelors of Healthcare Administration followed by her masters of Health Services Administration at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish, Maine.  Donna married Terry Warzynski on March 22, 1969, in Elizabethtown, New Jersey.  The couple moved to the Bancroft, Wisconsin, area after their marriage.

Donna worked as a nurse for 48 years. She began her professional career in Wisconsin at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. She also worked at River Pines Nursing and Rehab in Stevens Point; Waupun Memorial Hospital in Waupun, Wisconsin; and SW Florida Regional Medical Center in Naples, Florida, prior to retiring from Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Donna was a member of many professional organizations and held different offices in a couple of these organizations including two-time president of WNA (Wisconsin Nurses Association) and treasurer of CAN (Center for American Nurses).  After retirement, Donna served as a board member for Portage County Health and Human Services.

As a member of St. Bronislava Parish all of her Wisconsin life, Donna enjoyed being involved in any way she could. She was a member of PCCW (Parish Council of Catholic Women). She loved helping out at the annual festival by working in the food tent and selling tickets. Donna enjoyed many things, especially spending time with family and friends. She was very proud of her grandchildren in all they have accomplished and have grown up to be.

In addition to her parents, Donna is preceded in death way too soon by her husband, Terry; one brother-in-law, Henry Konczak; and a great-nephew, Grady Zeug.

Donna is survived by her son, Donald (Michelle), and daughter Kaye (Landy) Dunham; her three grandchildren (also known to her as 1K 2Q), Bryce Warzynski (Amanda Traxler) and Kaylan and Lucinda Dunham; one sister, Katherine (Lawrence) Warzynski; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edward (Diana) Warzynski (Jr), Charles (Audrey) Warzynski, Wayne Warzynski and Brenda Hutkowski, Jane (Michael) Frisque, Susan Konczak, Anthony (Teresa) Warzynski, Debra (Richard) Green, and James (Trina) Warzynski; and many (and counting) nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Very special thank you goes out to several people: Shana at Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for all of her care and compassion; Kim and staff at Dimensions Living—Stevens Point for all of their support during Donna’s short time there; and Mary G., Mary O., and Gloria F. for all of their help and friendship through the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Donna will be held at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover, Wisconsin, on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.  Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate.  Friends and family will gather for visitation from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the Plover-Shuda Funeral Home: 2400 Plover Road in Plover.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to NFW (Nurses Foundation of Wisconsin) as part of the Nightingale Tribute in Donna’s name at https://www.wisconsinnurses.org/membership/nightingale-tribute/. Donna was a tremendous advocate for nursing and nursing education.

I knew Donna through our membership in the Wisconsin Nurses Association. She was a strong leader and compassionate about taking care of people. Lots of great memories of conventions and meetings.

Our deepest sympathy to all of Donna's friends and her family. It was an honor getting to know her over the past twelve or so years. She treated everyone like "family" and her smiling face will be greatly missed at any all future family gatherings.

I have found memories of working with Donna in her various nursing roles. She was instrumental to building bridges toward providing long term care in the community for older people, and younger people with disabilities, by finding ways to coordinate medical and social services to allow people to live their best lives. She was a wonderful, kind and accomplished woman. She made the world a better place. I am so sorry for your loss.
