Dearest Mary and family,

Please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss, our prayers are with you, your children, brother Fritz and family during this difficult time.

We ached as we shared the news of Kurt's passing. Can't believe he is gone! We hope our memories growing up in Rochelle and of the "glory days" of Hubs football will be of some comfort to all of you.

Our Rochelle family friendships run pretty deep and long.
Fritz shared a high school football team picture not long ago of his dad Earl Harms side by side with Chuck Weeks, father of Tom, Jack and JP. Sons Kurt and Jack played the same positions at the same school years later.

Kurt's mom Jean and Jack's mom Helen were good friends. They shared stories of the two year olds sleeping in the same playpen as they chatted. Kurt's blond head and Jack's redhead at rest. The mom's whispering because they knew the mayhem would start again soon enough.

We have all been good friends since grade school, enjoying sports, first cars, first cigars and first loves. We grew up, moved off to new lives and new families but reconnected with our wives at high school reunions and created more wonderful times together.

We may have played our last football game together in 1961 but it seems like just yesterday. 60 years have passed in a blink of an eye. Kurt was always the heart of our defence at his position of middle linebacker. He was vicious, a sure tackler, always hawking the ball and sensing the flow of the opposition. Jack says, "From my position at safety, directly behind Kurt, I often was able to follow him and just clean up what was left to do".

Our bud Kurt was a man of few words and a great heart! Our captain! Our MVP! Go HUBs!

Thank you for letting us share how much Kurt meant to us.
Please know that your friends love you Mary and wish we could all be with you as you lay Kurt to rest. We wish you and the family peace and hearts rest.
